Linn  Home Automation

More than 30 years ago, Linn was founded with a clear purpose; to reproduce, through superior sound, the thrills and emotion of a live performance. Linn and its range of products has grown because this commitment to quality and accurate performance has remained constant.

At Linn's factory in Glasgow, specialist engineers and craftsmen design and build exceptional products and total entertainment systems which are 'simply better'. Precision engineering, attention to detail and a keen understanding of customer needs shape every component, from the most complex multi-media solution to the most discreet music system.

Today, Linn is recognised as the world-leader in pitch-accurate sound reproduction, and Linn entertainment systems can be found throughout the world in royal residences, luxury homes, performance motorcars and the world's finest superyachts.

Linn Products Limited is an independent precision-engineering company specialising in top performance sound reproduction. Founded in 1972 by Ivor Tiefenbrun, the company grew out of Ivor's belief that he could vastly improve the sound quality of his own hi-fi system.

Linn strives to thrill customers who want the most out of life with entertainment systems that are "simply better". Linn standards also ensure that even the most affordable Linn system is good enough to communicate the emotion of the performance.

From the first Sondek turntable in 1972, to a market leader in specialised sound systems today, Linn has exhibited a clear, consistent philosophy, being true to the music and directly coupled to its sources. Today Linn makes a portfolio of products, including CD players, tuners, amplifiers and speakers and exports to more than 50 countries. As the sound technology leader Linn has earned a unique reputation in the world of specialist hi-fi and multi-channel sound recording and reproduction. Linn can now satisfy the demanding requirement of any discriminating customer who cares about sound quality.

Linn in-house Design Engineering expertise is responsible for achievement in every aspect of the products and Linn control all key processes, conceiving and creating the most advanced and innovative electronics in the field, and precision engineering, machining and manufacturing to the highest standards of accuracy. Linn's engineering resources have led to significant OEM manufacturing contracts supplying other leading companies wishing to give their products a point of difference with demonstrable sound quality advantage.

Linn's own record label, Linn Records, whose artists include Claire Martin, Barb Jungr and the internationally acclaimed Carole Kidd, together with Super Audio CD recording expertise helps Linn to control, monitor and compare every stage in the sound reproduction process, from artist performance to listener.

Linn's purpose built headquarters in Glasgow was designed by Richard Rodgers & Partners to support Linn's concept of a 'single-stage build'. One skilled operator is responsible for a task from start to finish and signs his or her name to a product only when satisfied that it meets Linn's exacting standards. In 2003 the original building will benefit from a £7M expansion, adding vital manufacturing resources for future growth.

Linn Managing Director, Ivor Tiefenbrun, was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his and his company's engineering achievements and outstanding service to the electronics industry. The Linn mission is "To thrill customers who want the most out of life from music, information and entertainment systems that benefit from quality sound".

In 2001, Ivor was announced as Scotland's Entrepreneur of the Year and also triumphed in the Business category of the Glenfiddich Sprit of Scotland Awards, voted for by members of the public. In 2002 Linn were granted Royal Warrant status, as suppliers of entertainment systems to the Royal Household.

Ivor is also fond of quoting Einstein's maxim, "Everything should be as simple as possible, but no simpler". This single minded approach has earned Linn its enviable reputation for uncompromising quality, but Linn people simply aim to treat customers the same way we would like to be treated.
